On the afternoon of July 12, 2025, a fatal crash occurred at the intersection of North Washington Avenue and US‑123 in Greenville County. According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, 34-year-old Kevin Leonard Schwenneker, from Piedmont, SC, was riding southbound on US‑123 when he attempted to cross the intersection and struck the passenger side of a GMC SUV, which was turning left. Schwenneker was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died shortly after due to his injuries.
The SUV driver and four passengers also sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash in collaboration with the coroner’s office
